Africa remains a world center for terrorist movements both within nations and in multinational regions. The most serious terrorist campaigns have been in Somalia (Islamist), Nigeria (Islamist), Uganda (Christianist), and South Africa (racial). While the Islamist wars in Somalia (Al-Shabaab and Islamic State) have been very violent and killed thousands, terrorism amounting to ethnic cleansing is taking place in Nigeria (Christians attacked by Boko Haram and Fulani tribes) and South Africa (Whites attacked by Blacks). Egypt, North Africa, the Sahel and Horn of Africa continue to see Islamist wars against governments and minorities. Throughout Africa, islamist rebellions inside countries tend to spread (political boundaries rarely conform to ethnic or religious boundaries): Nigerian-based Boko Haram has staged attacks in Cameroon, Chad, Mali, and Niger; in Mali it trained Islamist forces that in turn have started to demonstrate regional reach (e.g., attacks in Burkina Faso). The Christianist Lord’s Resistance Army in Uganda and South Sudan is also documented in this volume. All of these terrorist and ethnic cleansing campaigns are covered in this volume. Mainly because of the massive migrant flows into Europe, some part of whom are refugees, Europe has stared initiatives for demobilization, stabilization and reconstruction, for example, the German led efforts in the Lake Chad region. These efforts are also documented. An annotated bibliography including analytical essay, abstracts and documents. (Al-Qaeda & Jihadi Movements Worldwide (AQJM) is a subset of Middle East Abstracts & Index (MAI). MAI Vols. 43D; AQJM Vol. 113.)
